5. Revise your assumptions. Periodically reflect on your fears of intimacy as realistically as possible, because as you progress, it will be easier to talk yourself out of them. Sometimes a "gut fear" established in infancy will never go away, but it can be overridden by thinking to yourself: "I know this fear is meant to protect me, but it's like a false alarm--I do not need to act on it. I appreciate the warning very much, but I think I will ignore it."

7. Learn to increase your volume to a level the non-HSP can hear. It is very important to realize that the way you like to be addressed -- subtly, softly, indirectly -- will not always be heard bu a non-HSP. ... By volume I mean literally how loud you speak and also how directly and assertively. Not, "Gee, I'm getting cold," but, "Would you please turn up the heat?"
