3. HSPs and the Fear of Intimacy
P100 On becoming secure
5. Revise your assumptions. Periodically reflect on your fears of intimacy as realistically as possible, because as you progress, it will be easier to talk yourself out of them. Sometimes a "gut fear" established in infancy will never go away, but it can be overridden by thinking to yourself: "I know this fear is meant to protect me, but it's like a false alarm--I do not need to act on it. I appreciate the warning very much, but I think I will ignore it."

It is very important to realize that the way you like to be addressed -- subtly, softly, indirectly -- will not always be heard bu a non-HSP. ... Not, "Gee, I'm getting cold," but, "Would you please turn up the heat?" HSPs can "take hints" al too well, but non-HSPs often miss them. (This suggestion is also essential with non-HSPs in the workplace, by the way.
